First blog then...
Finally found time to write the first blog for this site. Blogging is a strange and slightly narcissistic activity with which I engage with slightly less shame now that I twitter. Being a founder member of the ‘bad at spelling’ club I usually try to use word to write the actual text where I then battle with the spell checker to convince it that perfectly acceptable words like structuralist do not need underlining in red pen as if they have received the attentions of a demented school teacher. In this case I discovered that Microsoft Word holds the term ‘blogger’ in its dictionary. Is this a word now? I also discovered that it can spell the word narcissistic and I apparently cannot.
All that aside the situation is currently that I am heading for the end of lecture work for the year (3 weeks or so left), finishing the re-writes for the national diploma and first diploma writing modules and a couple of others, chasing academic funding, still working on the damned and accursed literature review, thinking about next year and, oh happy day, glancing occasionally at the folder that I once optimistically entitled ‘writing in progress’ and planning to revive some of the work. I seem to also remember offering to do something on the upcoming BBC radiophonic workshop symposium at Northampton University. The event is the brainchild of Richard Hollingum, an old and respected friend and colleague, who has an inexhaustible fund of knowledge on the R.W. and I am sure we had a conversation about it late last year when he broached the idea at a similar event during which I offered to do something on something about something. I have a vague memory of it being it all being to do with the narrative influence of R.W. on Doctor Who and Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
Anyway the event will be a good ‘un, you should go. Details will be on the university website soon I guess.
Another cricket season starts and my knee is still too dodgy to allow me the dubious pleasure of hearing my stumps torn from the ground before starting the sad walk back to pavilion with a dismal score in the book. On a happier note I am looking forward to a day in the sun watching Australia in July.
That’s it for the moment.
